Frequently Asked Questions

The CollegeInvest Graduate Rebate Award for Denver Students (GRADS) is a groundbreaking partnership between the City and County of Denver and CollegeInvest, Colorado’s not-for-profit higher education financing resource. The program is offered to Denver Public Schools (DPS) high school graduates and Denver residents who obtain a high school diploma from 2005—2009 and go on to college. The program offers CollegeInvest Stafford loan forgiveness of up to $1,500 upon college graduation.

1. Register to participate in the CollegeInvest Mile-High GRADS Program

It’s quick and easy, and you can register while you are in high school or college. Just be sure to register before your college graduation.

2. Apply to colleges and universities you’d like to attend

You probably already have an idea of which colleges and universities you’re interested in, so start filling out applications to these schools as soon as possible. In most cases, the earlier you apply, the sooner you’ll know if you are accepted. For more information about schools in Colorado, visit www.collegeincolorado.org.

3. Fill out the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

To qualify for and receive all forms of financial aid, including federal student loans, the federal government requires all students to complete the FAFSA.

4. Compare award letters

Each school that offers you a spot will probably send a financial aid award letter. This document will outline which forms of financial aid you qualify for and may include a mix of loans, scholarships, work-study, grants and more. Comparing award letters is important because the amounts awarded in these letters will vary and may have an impact on which school you choose to attend. Also, to qualify, you will need to make sure your school participates in the FFEL student loan program.

5. Select CollegeInvest as your student loan lender

It is important that you select CollegeInvest as your lender. We are unable to offer loan forgiveness if your loan is with a lender other than CollegeInvest.

Even without the Denver GRADS Program, CollegeInvest is still the best option for student loans. As a not-for-profit division of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, we’re here to help make college a reality.
